Kandahar

For Kandahar, the Gerard Butler action thriller, Layer83 joined Union VFX to design one story-critical sequence: a character's dating app, from the interface itself to the swipe-and-match animation that plays out on his phone.

It was a departure from our usual control rooms and HUDs, and a fast one. The whole sequence was designed and delivered within three days. We researched how leading dating apps look and behave, then built an original app with its own identity, layouts and interaction design.

We presented a range of colour schemes for the match screen so the production could choose the look that best suited the scene. The approved design was animated and then composited into the shot in post-production.
